Chelsea striker Joao Pedro has started the 2026/2027 campaign with a bang and his efforts have earned him the first player of the month award for the season. The Brazilian opened his scoring account for the new season in just 31 seconds after latching onto a lovely through ball by Cole Palmer. He ran through and clinically chipped Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno to fire Chelsea ahead. He then registered his first assist of the season by returning the favour for Palmer and setting up the third goal for the Blues which ended up being the winner.
Pedro continued this form into the second game against Brighton who were high flying after the Seagulls decimated Aston Villa 4-0 in their opening fixture. After missing a handful of wonderful opportunities Pedro finally scored and put Chelsea 3 goals up after just 32 minutes. Unfortunately, just after the hour mark, he diverted Pascal Gross’ cross into his own net and put Brighton right back in the contest. A small favour for his former club some would argue! He made up for his mistake later in the second half after he played Palmer a lightly weighted ball and the Englishman did the rest and curled a beauty into the far corner to settle yet another win for the Blues.
Goal involvements aside, Pedro’s all round game play has been superb. He is a huge threat for opposition defences with his strong hold up play, quick thinking and electric pace which proves too much for most defenders. A well deserved award for the 24-year-old.
