Xabi Alonso’s Chelsea were once again let down by their defence as Hull City rocked up to Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon and snatched a well earned point to keep their unbeaten start to the season intact.
Summer signing Morgan Rogers fired the Blues ahead inside the first seven minutes. He picked up the ball from Joao Pedro on the edge of the box, drove at Hull’s defence before unleashing an impressive effort into the near post and too powerful for Konstantinos Tzolakis to deal with. After that start, most people expected Chelsea to kick on and win the game comfortably but the visitors had other ideas.
Ryan Giles latched onto a loose long pass on the left hand corner of the pitch. He hooked the ball into the box and at first it seemed like it would be simply dealt with by Jorrel Hato but the Dutchman misjudged the bounce and that allowed Mohamed Belloumi to take the ball under his control and unleash a venomous shot into the corner to level the game up for the Tigers.
Hull City were not done there. A corner was delivered into the box by Regan Slater. His cross was met by Semi Ajayi whose header rattled the crossbar. The ball eventually fell to Belloumi once again who took a hopeful shot which took a huge deflection off Levi Colwill and ended up in the back of the net to put Hull in front.
Oliver McBurnie had an opportunity to fire Hull 3-1 in front but Emiliano Martinez was forced into a top save. Moments later, Chelsea levelled the game via their Brazilian striker Joao Pedro. Cole Palmer’s pass was collected by Pedro in the centre of the box and dispatched clinically to rescue a point for Chelsea.
With the Blues conceding once again it means Chelsea have failed to keep a Premier League clean sheet for twenty consecutive league games. On the other hand, another brilliant point for Hull City who are enjoying a fairytale return to England’s top flight.
