Igor Thiago scored his first Premier League goal of the 2026/2027 season as Brentford sealed a sumptuous three points at the Gtech Community Stadium.
The Bees entered the game against Xabi Alonso’s Blues yet to taste defeat and their unbeaten run was extended in fine fashion. After a cagey first half with both teams seemingly playing a chess match to work eachother out, Brentford burst into life during the second half and swept Chelsea aside convincingly.
Jaidon Anthony opened the scoring just after the hour mark. The former Bournemouth winger headed home clinically after the ball was fired across by Jannik Schuster with the assist.
Chelsea failed to threaten at all and they were severely punished with seven minutes to play. Kevin Schade produced an adequate save from Emiliano Martinez only for the ball to fall to Igor Thiago who converted confidently to wrap up the game. It was the Brazilian’s first league goal of the season after finishing second in last year’s golden boot race to Erling Haaland.
Chelsea attempted to apply some more pressure but were yet again stung by the Bees as Fabio Carvahlo added a third in stoppage time. A third consecutive league game without a win for Chelsea and a result that leaves Keith Anderew’s side third after five games played.
