Chelsea are open to loan proposals for Mykhailo Mudryk this summer as the club look to give the winger regular first team football following his return to competitive action.
Mudryk has recently returned to the Chelsea squad after a lengthy absence and the club are now considering the best route for the Ukrainian to rebuild his rhythm and confidence. A loan move is viewed as a realistic option, particularly with Chelsea wanting him to play consistently rather than spending a lot of time on the bench.
Several clubs are understood to have shown interest in the 25-year-old, with teams in Italy and Chelsea’s sister club Strasbourg among the options being considered. However, Mudryk’s preference is understood to be remaining in the Premier League, where he believes regular football could provide the best environment for his return.
It is understood that newly promoted side Coventry City are keen on Mudryk. Frank Lampard likes Mudryk and he knows the winger relatively well from his short stint at Chelsea in 2023. Lampard is understood to be keen on the possibility of bringing him to Coventry on loan as the club prepare for their first Premier League campaign following promotion.
Mudryk joined Chelsea from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023 in a deal worth an initial £62 million, potentially rising to £89 million with add ons. It was a crazy transfer saga which saw him nearly signing for Arsenal and then being poached by the Blues right at the last minute. He has since made 73 appearances for Chelsea across all competitions, scoring 10 goals and providing 11 assists.
His Chelsea career has failed to reach the levels expected following his big money move, with consistency and end product proving to be his biggest issues. However, his raw qualities remain clear. Mudryk possesses exceptional pace and acceleration, while his ability to attack space makes him particularly dangerous in transition. This is a trait that a side like Coventry would love. They will rely on counter attacks especially against top opponents. His pace can stretch their opposition and potentially cause a lot of issues.
The biggest question is now how quickly he can rediscover his previous level after such a prolonged period away from competitive football.
Chelsea are understood to be taking a careful approach to the situation. The club have received approaches from multiple Premier League and European sides, but no decision has been made regarding a permanent departure. A loan would allow Mudryk to play regularly while Chelsea retains control over his long-term future.
For Coventry, the opportunity to add a player with Premier League and Champions League experience would represent a significant statement following their promotion.
Mudryk’s preference for a Premier League loan could therefore prove important in determining his next destination. If Chelsea decide that regular football away from Stamford Bridge is the best solution, Coventry could emerge as one of the most attractive options.
