Arsenal wins the FA Community Shield for an 18th time in their history after dismantling Manchester City 3-0 on Enzo Maresca’s competitive debut replacing Pep Guardiola.
Riccardo Calafiori fired the Gunners ahead after just 24 seconds when the Italian was played through superbly by Myles Lewis-Skelly. The Italian defender confidently slotted home past Gianluigi Donnarumma. Kai Havertz then doubled Arsenal’s lead just before the half an hour mark when Christos Tzolis picked him out with a knocked down header for Havertz to bundle into the back of the net.
David Raya was forced to make some impressive saves, but the Gunners looked in control during the entire first half. The second period started how the first did, with a goal. This time it was Martin Odegaard, the captain, who finished a scintillating move to put more daylight between them and City. Tzolis yet again with an assist played the ball into Odegaard. He glided past one defender, dummied Donnarumma and calmly converted into the corner.
A sixth consecutive Community Shield triumph for Arsenal as they kick off their title defence season with a bang.
