Joao Palhinha has agreed personal terms with Aston Villa and has informed Bayern Munich that he wants to join the UEFA Europa League winners this summer.
The 31-year-old midfielder, who spent last season on loan at Tottenham, is now prepared to complete the move as soon as Villa and Bayern reach an agreement over a transfer fee.
Discussions between the two clubs are expected to follow, with Bayern currently seeking around £25 million for the Portugal international.
Palhinha only joined Bayern Munich from Fulham in 2024 but has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter in Germany. He managed to gain favour of the Tottenham fans last season when his goal against Everton ultimately prevented a shock relegation to the EFL Championship, but Spurs were reluctant to meet Bayern’s financial demands.
The player’s decision is a significant boost for Villa, who have been working to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season. Palhinha’s defensive qualities, physicality and experience in the Premier League make him an attractive option for Unai Emery’s side.
With personal terms already agreed, the focus now shifts towards negotiations between Aston Villa and Bayern Munich.
If the two clubs can reach an agreement over the £25 million asking price, Palhinha will be free to complete his move to Villa Park.
