Raul Jimenez scored a dramatic stoppage time penalty to rescue Wolves from an opening day defeat to Blackburn Rovers at the Molineux.
A first game back in the EFL Championship for Wolves since 2018 and it was expected to be relatively plain sailing. This was not the case. Marshall Munetsi opened the scoring with a lovely finish after receiving the ball on the edge of the box from Fer Lopez.
The visitors struck back less than ten minutes later. Ryoya Morishita delivered a teasing ball into the box which was met by Sean McLoughlin who was lurking at the back post to level the game.
Early in the second period, Blackburn found themselves ahead. Again, some wonderful wing play was rewarded with a striker’s finish. This time it was Oladapo Afolayan’s cross that was met by Andri Guojohnsen to fire his team ahead.
It looked set to be a perfect start to the new season for Rovers until Ryan Alebiosu committed a 93rd minute penalty after he was deemed to have handled the ball in the box. Jimenez stepped up and converted confidently to snatch a vital point for Wolves on their Championship return.
